Can I lose a Stone eating Subway?

Eat sandwiches and get thin??  It really isn’t possible is it? Well the good folks at subway seem to think that it is!

Although the advertising campaign wasn’t as big in the UK; in the US there was an advertising campaign with this fast guy called Jared who, apparently, lost most of his weight eating Subway sandwiches.

What exactly is a healthy diet? It’s not necessarily about counting calories, measuring portions or cutting carbohydrates.

The thing is Jared didn’t go for the foot-long steak and cheese, with double cheese, and extra mayo, washed down with a full fat coke and a packet of cheese and onion… Oh no,  Jared dined on plain, low fat sandwiches with little to no dressings. The thinnest people I know eat mostly the same things everyday which don’t include loads of fat.

Despite what many people think, there is no ‘official’ Subway diet. Most people refer to the diet that Jared Fogle used as he lost all of his weight.

So is it possible for you to get the same weight loss results as Jared? Yes it is if you do it right. Subway nutrition is far better for you than Mcdonalds or KFC but only if you choose the right things…  If you get greedy, you might as well go and gorge on a bargain bucket.

If you have a 6 inch turkey breast and ham sandwich, this equated to 280 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 1 gram of saturated fat.  But beware!  If you start adding cheesy bread, mayonnaise, and cheese and you could add around 150 calories extra to your sandwich.

On the other hand, if you were to pop round and see Ronald, A Big Mac meal will consist of around 1200 calories. .

As we said, subway nutrition is better than most other fast food restaurant’s out there. Eating a similar diet to Jared can help you drop some pounds.

But the fact of the matter is that you don’t need subway to do it.  Healthy bread and fresh vegetables are available at the supermarket along with lean meat and low fat dressings.  So shake it up by eating foods that are healthier than Subway.

A healthy diet is more about what it is you eat rather than how much you eat.  Weight loss is not about the latest fads and then going back to the way you used to eat.  True, sustained weight loss needs to come from a long term change in your lifestyle.  Otherwise you will find the weight piling back on, sooner that you can say “put extra cheese and mayonnaise on that”.
